Wild Purple Tea Buds |  野生紫芽苞 Tasting notes: Candyfloss, ginger, preserved plum
 Origin: Jinggu, Puerh, Yunnan
 Cultivar: Wild
 Elevation: 950m
 Oxidation: ⦿○○○○
One of the most beguiling teas we've come across, these curious-looking buds (芽苞) appear to be the buds of offshoot branches, rather than tea leaves. They are harvested only once a year in spring from wild tea trees (300 to 500 years old) that grow natively in the tea forests of Yunnan, China.Â
These precious buds are in limited supply, due to the unpredictable yield of wild trees. They are minimally processed (picked, withered and sundried) to show off the amazing aroma that is naturally inherent in the buds themselves.
The tree they are picked from has a natural purplish tint to its leaves, and is said to contain lower levels of caffeine than other varietals. When brewed, these buds exhibit a fascinating candy-sweet aroma with hints of spicy ginger.
