Darjeeling First Flush|大吉嶺春摘茶

Tasting notes: Brisk, white grape, chrysanthemum
 Origin: Darjeeling, India
 Cultivar: AV2 clonal

 Elevation: 2060m
 Oxidation: ⦿⦿⦿○○

Made from only the finest new shoots harvested in the early onset of spring, our Darjeeling First Flush has an abundance of silver tips (buds) and is much less oxidised ('greener') than most black teas. Grown in the pure, crisp air of the Himalayas, this tea is often called the “Champagne of Teas” for its muscatel, white grape flavour, with undertones of chrysanthemum.

This artisan tea is sourced from a top tea estate in Darjeeling. In spring, tender new shoots emerge and the tea gardens are coated in a carpet of bright lime green, heralding the arrival of the prized Darjeeling First Flush tea.

Though categorised as a black tea, it is much lighter, or ‘greener’ than most black teas, as you will notice by the pale yellow of its smooth and palatable liquor. In fact, we think it tastes closer to a white tea than a black tea, which often causes confusion for a lot of people!

A very special tea that makes for a fabulous cold-brew, to be drunk in Champagne flutes at your next summer gathering!

Darjeeling First Flush is a lightly oxidised tea with a high proportion of delicate buds, so we recommend brewing it at between 85°C and 90°C.

These are just guidelines. As we always say, it’s best to experiment with a range of temperatures and leaf-to-water ratios to understand the tea and your own taste preferences.
