Tangerine Puerh | 小青柑

 Tasting notes: Citrus, velvety, earthy

Ripe Puerh tea:
 Origin: Menghai, Yunnan, China
 Elevation: 1400m
Cultivar: 大葉種 Daye Zhong (Puerh Assamica)
 Oxidation: ⦿⦿⦿⦿⦿

 Origin:  Xinhui, Guangdong, China

Tangerine Puerh is a citrusy twist on our Classic Ripe Puerh. Tangerines are dried and skillfully hollowed out before being filled with whole-leaf Ripe Puerh to make this artisanal tea. The combination of the warming citrus essence of the young tangerine and the earthy flavour of the Puerh is soothing and nourishing. Full of health benefits, this is a good tea to have when you’re feeling under the weather.

In fact, dried tangerine peel is commonly used as an ingredient in Traditional Chinese Medicine to cure coughs, sore throats, dry up mucus, reduce nausea and aid digestion.

This, in addition to Ripe Puerh’s probiotic benefits, makes Tangerine Puerh a welcome health boost. Long-term Puerh drinking may also help reduce cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cancer.

We source our tangerines from Xinhui, Guangdong, the home of dried tangerine peel, and the tea is a 5-year-old Ripe Puerh from Menghai, Yunnan. The resulting tea yields a velvety, silky texture, with a strong, comforting flavour that lasts for many infusions.

Tangerine Puerh is easy to brew with any teaware or brewing method. Just pop in a tangerine, add hot water and enjoy!

Gongfu style (Gaiwan)
1 piece | per 150-200ml | 98°C | 1 min
+10s per steep for at least 7 steeps
(For a lighter brew, use half a tangerine)

Western style (Teapot)
1 piece | per 300ml | 95°C | 3 mins
+1 min per steep for at least 3 steeps

Pro tip: Pour the water stream directly onto the tangerine peel for a more citrusy brew, and onto the tea leaves for an earthier brew.

These are just guidelines. As we always say, it’s best to experiment with a range of temperatures and leaf-to-water ratios to understand the tea and your own taste preferences.
