Song Zhong Dancong
Phoenix Dancong (Song Zhong) | 宋種鳳凰單欉
Tasting notes: Honey, charcoal, wood
Origin: Phoenix Mountain, Chaozhou, China
Cultivar: 宋種 Song Zhong
Song Zhong is one of the 8 most famous varietals of Dancong oolong tea. The others on the list are: Eight Immortals, Orchid Scent, Baiye, Wuye, Duck Shit, Almond Scent and Honey Orchid Scent.
This Song Zhong Dancong was harvested from 40-year-old trees that grow among the highest elevations of the Phoenix Mountain range in Chaozhou, China. These high elevations provide an ideal environment for the development of tea polyphenols and aromatic compounds, producing teas with highly complex flavours and intense aromas.
This cultivar is said to originate from the Song Dynasty, and is known for its "mountain essence", smooth texture and sweet flavour. It has a distinctive honey, floral aroma that lingers in your mouth the whole day. It is highly oxidised, charcoal roasted three times, and is great for ageing.
