Said to be named by an English queen for the colourful, elegant appearance of the leaves that dance in the water, Oriental Beauty is one of Taiwan's most highly prized teas.

There are many factors that make it as popular and delicious as it is:

  • It has an endearing honey aroma, which is naturally produced by the tea plant as a defence against tiny leafhoppers nibbling on its leaves.
  • It is the only oolong tea to  contain white furry buds, which require very delicate handling in the complex and laborious processing.
  • It is heavily oxidised (70-80%), giving it a deep malty flavour, close to that of black tea.
Oriental Beauty yields a golden amber liquor and a fruity, sugary flavour with a malty base. We recommend brewing it in a glass teapot to fully appreciate its beauty!

A delicate tea, Oriental Beauty shows off its best flavours between 85°C and 90°C.

Gongfu style (Gaiwan)
6g | per 100ml | 85°C | 1 min
+10s per steep for at least 5 steeps

Western style (Teapot)
10g | per 500ml | 90°C | 5 mins
+1 min per steep for at least 3 steeps

Cold brew
10g | 1L | Room temp/ refrigerated | 6 hours

These are just guidelines. As we always say, it’s best to experiment with a range of temperatures and leaf-to-water ratios to understand the tea and your own taste preferences.
