Old Grove Tieguanyin | 正欉鐵觀音

Tasting notes: Ripe fruit, nutty, caramel
 Origin: Muzha, Taipei, Taiwan
 Cultivar: 紅心歪尾桃 Hongxin Waiweitao (Tieguanyin)

 Elevation: 350m

 Heavy roasted

Old Grove Tieguanyin is a robust, roasted oolong tea with a smooth texture and sweet notes of toasted caramel and baked fruit. This Tieguanyin smells exceptionally good when brewed—instantly filling the entire space with its mouth-watering aroma.

This is an example of a “traditional” dark roasted Tieguanyin oolong tea, made from the oldest known Tieguanyin cultivar 紅心歪尾桃 Hongxin Waiweitao that originated in Quanzhou, Fujian, and was brought over to Muzha, Taiwan in the 1800s. It is now characteristic of Muzha Tieguanyins.

Old Grove Tieguanyin is handcrafted using traditional roasting methods and laboriously rolled into a tight ball shape. This gives the tea a dark amber brew with a sugary molasses flavour.

We love it as an afternoon tea, paired with cakes and scones!

As a roasted, balled oolong, Old Grove Tieguanyin does well with temperatures close to boiling. You can rinse the tea first to speed up the unfurling process and get a stronger first infusion.

These are just guidelines. As we always say, it’s best to experiment with a range of temperatures and leaf-to-water ratios to understand the tea and your own taste preferences.
