This tea is similar to our Wild Purple Tea Buds, except that it comes from a different wild varietal that grows in a different area of Yunnan.
These curious-looking buds (芽苞) appear to be the buds of offshoot branches, rather than tea leaves. They are harvested only once a year in spring from wild tea trees (300 to 500 years old) and are in limited supply, due to the unpredictable yield of wild trees.
They are minimally processed (picked, withered and sundried) to show off the amazing aroma that is naturally inherent in the buds themselves, and are said to contain lower levels of caffeine than other varietals. When brewed, they exhibit a unique floral aroma with a leathery texture and a crisp finish.
